ANORMA (noun, feminine)
1. Etymology: From Greek “A-” (absence) and Latin “Norma” (rule).
2. Definition: Out of the norm, free of established frameworks, in search of new paths.
Anorma Films is an independent production company based in Toulouse, Occitanie, founded by Amina Salem Castaing and Thomas Castaing.
It works in close collaboration with Alpha Tango, its sister organisation based in Algiers. Together, the two companies support fiction, documentary and hybrid projects between Europe and North Africa.
Anorma is involved in development, production, co-production and executive production. We support writers and directors in bringing unique projects to life, from conception through to distribution.
And because great stories aren’t told solely through cinema, Anorma also supports music videos and branded content: advertising films, digital formats and audiovisual projects seeking to find their own distinctive voice.
Our presence on two continents enables us to create genuine creative, technical and financial synergy, whilst facilitating collaborations between France, Algeria, Europe and the MENA region.
Two sister companies, two regions, one shared ambition: to bring to life films that are free-spirited, sensitive and skilfully crafted.
Amina Salem Castaing – Producer
A graduate of HEC Montréal, Amina took her first steps in the audiovisual industry at Boogie Studio, working in sound post-production. In 2009, a trip to Algeria turned into a return to her roots: she settled there and worked her way up the ranks, from assistant to producer.
In 2015, she joined Bang Bang Réalisation, before co-founding Alpha Tango in 2021. There, she developed solid expertise in executive production and worked on short films, feature films, documentaries and dramas, which were selected for and won awards at major international festivals, from the Venice Film Festival to Clermont-Ferrand, via TIFF, Vision du Réel, the Césars and IDFA.
Now working at ANORMA Films, Amina continues to divide her time between France and Algeria, with her curiosity undimmed and a taste for projects that think outside the box. Always on the lookout for new challenges, she seeks out unique perspectives, stories that need to be told and free-form cinematic approaches.
Thomas Castaing – Director / Creative Producer
Having started out in computer graphics, where he honed his sense of composition and attention to detail, Thomas moved naturally into film directing. After starting his career in Montreal, he settled in Algeria in 2009, where he directed over two hundred advertising films.
In 2021, he co-founded the production company Alpha Tango in Algiers, which has produced documentaries and fiction films selected for major international festivals.
In 2022, he co-directed two episodes of the documentary series “Fascinant Maghreb” for Arte, and his music video “SLOW”, made for the Canadian band Tanuki, received five official festival selections.
In 2024, he completed his first short film, “VERITAS”, supported by the Institut Français in Algiers.
Back in Toulouse, he founded ANORMA Films and continued his work as a director whilst also taking on the role of creative producer, putting his expertise at the service of filmmakers to bring to life unique, bold and human visions.
